The Maitland City Council has approved the masterplan for Wirraway at Thornton allowing the construction of arguably the region’s most exciting new development to progress.
The first two stages of housing are currently underway with the newly approved masterplan encompassing the remaining stages three through to six.
Throughout the development process it is expected that approximately $8.8 million will be contributed by Defence Housing Australia (DHA) toward improving roads and traffic facilities in Thornton North.
More than 500 premium land lots surrounded by shared community spaces, state-of-the-art recreational facilities and a rejuvenated natural wetland are part of the masterplan.
‘Our vision is becoming a reality with nearly 100 homes to be complete by Christmas,’ said DHA Acting Managing Director, Jan Mason.
Drawing inspiration from its natural surrounds, the Wirraway masterplan creates a natural ‘liveable community’ that promotes sustainable living, healthy lifestyles and safety. While the contemporary housing of the development will demonstrate innovation, best-practice building and sustainability.
Wirraway is close to community facilities, shopping centres and schools, and is well-serviced by public transport.
‘Our vision for Wirraway is to create a beautiful, parkland neighbourhood that’s characterised by high-quality homes, tree-lined streets and shared community spaces,’ Ms Mason said.
‘It’s important to foster a sense of community from the beginning and encourage residents to interact with their neighbours. We want to see residents getting outdoors, making new connections and sharing their stories.’
A community park is proposed for stage three, where future residents will be able to workout at the dedicated fitness station, enjoy the aviation-themed play equipment and half-sized basketball court, or cycle along the shared pathways. It is hoped approval for the community park also contained in the masterplan will soon be granted by council.
Watch our vision come to life now.
