Movies in the park

Residents at Wirraway enjoyed a sunset screening of ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ at Wirraway Park.

To celebrate the opening of Wirraway Park, residents were invited to ‘movies in the park’ as the new $1.6 million community space transformed into an open-air cinema.

Excitement was in the air as residents gathered to launch the multipurpose recreational park and enjoy a sunset screening of the family favourite ‘A Dog’s Purpose’.

The festivities also included tasty treats from food van favourites El Poco Loco, Urban Oven Waffles and Hennessey Coffee—plus a spectacular flyover by a vintage 1942 Wirraway plane, one of only four left operating in the world.

More than 200 people visited the new park over the opening weekend, with families excitedly sharing that they had been checking daily to see if the community space was open.

The local kids enthusiastically tested the new playground equipment, which features a fitness station, half-sized basketball court, flying fox and skate board zone.

DHA Development Manager, Gully Coote, said the event was the first of many planned to help establish a vibrant, family-friendly community.

‘Spaces like Wirraway Park are an important part of foresting a happy and active community—we’re excited to kick-off the first of many community activities at Wirraway.’
