Steve and Ann Douglas are officially the first land owners in Defence Housing Australia’s new residential development Wirraway, at Thornton.
Reflecting the 50-50 mix of civilian to RAAF personnel, Steve and Ann Douglas are not from Defence, however have chosen the Wirraway development based on its location and future investment potential. ‘We’ve got rail right on our doorstep, the expressway and the new hospital soon. We know it’s a growing area—one of the fastest areas outside Sydney,’ Mr Douglas said. The family currently live in Thornton, and recently put their deposit down on one of the largest 1,390 square metre lots. ‘It just gives us a bit more room,’ and ‘it’s pretty accessible for us with work and school,’ Mr Douglas said.
Set among sweeping rural surrounds, with city life only minutes away, ‘the views are breathtaking!’ DHA Managing Director Peter Howman said. The development will feature more than 16 hectares of open space, which will include cycleways, barbeque facilities, an aviation-themed play space and half-sized basketball court.
