Council presses play on park

Civil works are well underway on stage three, which contains a new community park.

Late last year Maitland City Council approved a planned community park in Wirraway at Thornton, DHA’s new masterplanned community in the Lower Hunter Valley.

Featuring a dedicated fitness station, aviation-themed play equipment, half-sized basketball court, shared cycle paths and a skateboard berm, the community park will be enjoyed by more than 500 families who will one day call Wirraway home.

‘It’s important to foster a sense of community from the beginning. With more than one-third of the development dedicated to open space, Wirraway’s masterplan was designed to encourage residents to get outside and interact with their neighbours,’ said Gully Coote, Development Manager.

With civil works currently underway on stage three of the six stage development, the new community park is expected to be unveiled later in the year. Housing in the first two stages has already been completed, with nearly 100 families already living in Wirraway.

Drawing inspiration from its natural surrounds, the Wirraway masterplan creates a natural ‘liveable community’ that promotes sustainable living, healthy lifestyles and safety.
