Development in the lower Hunter continues to flourish, with Wirraway welcoming new residents over the weekend at our annual community barbeque.
Late last year Maitland City Council approved a planned community park in Wirraway at Thornton, DHA’s new masterplanned community in the Lower Hunter Valley.
After a sold out first release, Wirraway is well on its way to becoming a bustling new community with nearly 90 families choosing to call the new community home.
Indigenous artefacts dating back 3,000 years ago have been discovered during an archaeological dig at Wirraway.
The Maitland City Council has approved the masterplan for Wirraway at Thornton allowing the construction of arguably the region’s most exciting new development to progress.
A year after their play equipment was severely damaged in the one-in-500 year storm that hit the Hunter, Thornton Public School students are back in force on the playground.
One of the newest developments in the Hunter region has officially welcomed its first residents over the weekend, with a ‘Welcome to Wirraway’ barbeque taking place at the picturesque Wirraway in Thornton.
Wirraway has set a new benchmark in the Hunter Valley, becoming the first residential community in the region to receive the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s esteemed green tick of approval for environmental excellence across the categories of waste, ecosystems, energy, materials, water and community.
When wild weather hit the Hunter Valley in April, many in the region were affected including the community surrounding our residential development in Thornton, Wirraway.
The Hunter Valley’s newest development is beginning to look like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. After works were delayed by the storms that hit the area in April, stage one civil works are nearing completion at Defence Housing Australia’s Wirraway residential development in Thornton.

The first release of land at the Hunter Valley’s newest residential development is about to take flight.
